About our business

The Cook family first started the retail business in 1983, selling a selection of horse feeds. Our business has grown steadily over the years and continues to be run by the family, together with our team of knowledgeable staff. We have become established as one of the leading specialist suppliers of pigeon food and cage and aviary supplies in the Midlands.

Our many years of experience in animal husbandry enables us to recommend and supply products which represent the best quality and value, with particular emphasis on animal feeds and bedding. Our customer-friendly approach guarantees that when you visit Cook's Farm Shop & Country Supplies, you can be assured of great service together with sound product advice, whatever your requirements.

                Family-run farm shop

Our farm, Lane End Farm, situated close to and overlooking the beautiful Bradgate Park (pictured above) in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire, has been built by three generations of the Cook family with many years of farming experience. The farm carries livestock enterprises, including cattle, pigs and poultry as well as traditional arable crops. We firmly believe we have responsibilities to maintain the countryside and enhance it for future generations. To fulfill our aims, we have planted 3.5 acres of woodland using several broad-leaf tree species native to Britain.

Sustainable and ethical farming

We are members of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) Countryside Stewardship Scheme, which aims to:
  • Sustain the beauty and diversity of the landscape
  • Improve and extend wildlife habitats
  • Improve opportunities for countryside enjoyment
We are also members of the Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG). Working through a team of specialist advisers, FWAG helps us create and maintain suitable wildlife habitats. We do not apply crop sprays to field margins in order to preserve valuable food sources for birds and insects.
